It Starts with Grandma's Quilts

Growing up in the Uintah Basin of eastern Utah, K3Cores's founder, Keith Chandler's earliest memories were about hiking, fishing, hunting, and always camping, either under the stars or in Grandpa's huge sheep-herders tent.  On cold nights Grandma taught the cousins how to fold two quilts into a proper bedroll, which turned icy cold nights into warmth and comfort.  By morning however, the quilts were usually a bit damp and had lost some of their warmth.

Keith spent decades trying to find something better.  Synthetic and down sleeping bags promised but never delivered the same comfort of quilts cycling between too hot and too cold.  Like the quilts, sleeping bags were usually damp and cold by morning and that dampness increased after each day's use.

A New Technology

By 2010 Keith had met and was working with Jim Phillips, who introduced Keith to a remarkable polyurethane foam that Jim was using for emergency preparedness clothing.  This insulation stayed warm even when damp, and self-dried during normal use.  

After 2011 Jim and Keith went different ways in business but remained close friends and neighbors sharing technical information, designs, and testing data.  Jim focused more on teaching while Keith changed his focus to sleeping bags.

A Better Bag

The next decade included dozens of prototypes, hundreds of configurations, and required thousands of nights testing.  He was trying to blend the comfort of Grandma's quilted bed-rolls with Jim's moisture management.

By 2023 the result was the original Cocoon — A sleep system unlike anything on the market.

Developing Keloflex™

In the beginning of 2024 Jim Phillips passed away.  Keith was forced to re-examine what he actually knew about the foams being used. Keith teamed up with a 40-year expert in the industry to develop Keloflex™ which became the first of its kind specifically developed to improve temperature-stability while enhancing its self-drying moisture management.
